A vision for your ideal future life is really nothing more than a collage of individual dreams. Each dream is like a piece to a puzzle. When all of the pieces start to come together, a picture of your ideal future life begins to form.
Pursuing each dream and the goals behind each dream, however, is a painful process. To realize just one dream you have to become someone you’re not currently. You have to change in some aspect. It may be adding or improving a skill, it may mean gaining more or new knowledge, it may require a change in your habits, it may require joining a new group or meeting new people or it may require a wholesale move or a change in your environment. And that change is painful. It’s painful to you and to your loved ones.
There are growing pains to realizing your dreams. But after all of the years of investing in yourself, the payoff is that you grow into the person you need to be in order for success to visit you. The real genius in the pursuit of success is not in actually pursuing it, but in managing the process in such a way that you are able to maintain the support of your loved ones during your success journey. So when you set that vision of your ideal future life and define the individual dreams that make up that ideal future life, it’s critical that those you love participate in the process because they will have to tolerate those growing pains and they will also be stuck with the new person you become at the end of your success journey.
