A Positive Mental Outlook Physically Changes the Structure of Your Brain

If you were to view a picture of a brain cell, it would look a lot like an oak or maple leaf. It would have a body (a brain cell’s body is called a Soma), multiple lopes or protrusions (brain cell protrusions are called Dendrite Spines) and a stem (a brain cell stem is called an Axon).

Every brain cell has one body, multiple Dendrites and one Axon trunk with collateral or secondary Axon trunks, branching out.

The Dendrites receive communications. The Axon’s send communications.

The way Dendrites and Axons communicate with each other is by way of chemicals, known as neurotransmitters.

At the end of every Dendrite’s Spine are thousands of membranes, or receptors, who receive the neurotransmitter chemicals dispersed by the Axon.

At the end of every Axon branch are thousands of membranes, or Vesticles, which manufacture, store and disperse those neurotransmitter chemicals.

Each Dendrite membrane can only receive a specific neurotransmitter. And each Axon Vesticle can only send a specific neurotransmitter. So, the number of Dendrite membranes and the number of Axon Vesticles are equal, or in constant equilibrium, due to this one to one relationship.

If, for example, the Dendrites increase the number of receptors, for whatever reason, the Axon will increase the number of Vesticles, in order to keep the brain communication in equilibrium.

So, what does all of this brain stuff have to do with Optimism?

There are certain Positivity Neurotransmitters manufactured, stored and released by Axon Vesticles, such as Serotonin, Dopamine, Endorphins, Acetylcholine and Oxytocin.

When you make a habit of being optimistic, upbeat, enthusiastic and happy, the Axon Vesticles respond to your new positive thinking by increasing the manufacture of Serotonin, Dopamine, Endorphins, Acetylcholine and Oxytocin.

In an effort to keep up with the proliferation of these neurotransmitters, the Dendrite will manufacture more receptors, specific to these neurotransmitters, so that those receptors will be able to absorb the newfound supply.

It’s basically a supply and demand issue.

As the supply of Positivity Neurotransmitters produced by your Axons increases, the more Positivity Receptors your Dendrites must create in order to absorb that supply.

Therefore, the more positive your outlook on life, the more your brain will rewire itself in response to your positive outlook.

And that’s how you create an Optimist’s Brain.
