What does it take to be successful at what you do?

Successful people all share a common starting point – a clear vision of their future life.

All “Visions” require the realization of several Dreams. Each Dream is like a rung on the Ladder of Success. As you realize each Dream, you climb your Ladder of Success, one rung at a time.

Realizng a single Dream, however, requires the achievement of multiple Goals. Goals are physical activities you engage in that help transform each Dream into reality.

But what goals should you be pursuing? What action should you be taking?

The only way to understand what Goals you should be pursuing, is to learn everything there is to know about the industry, your Dream falls into. This means you need to read in order to gain knowledge about that industry. Then you must find out what the successful people in that industry are doing.

This means you must seek out the leaders in your industry. Leaders in your industry understand the industry best and know exactly what action you must take in order to succeed in the industry.

Once you find the successful people in the industry you want to succeed in, the next step is to start asking them questions about what to do in order to succeed in the industry. Then document every one of their answers.

I do this via the Binder System.

Create a binder about your industry. In that binder will be all of the facts you’ve gathered about your industry and all of the answers to the questions you’ve asked of the industry leaders.

I use an Author Binder for this express purpose. My Author Binder is my Bible. I refer to it often. I update it often.

Your binder should be separated by topic or category. As you gain knowledge, you will be able to define the key topics within your industry and fill each topic with facts and answers. Your industry binder will become your Bible for your industry and help make clear the Goals you must pursue.

As you gain knowledge and take action on your Goals, your expertise will grow. So, too, will your value to those you serve within your industry.

People will gladly pay you for that value.

In time, the value you provide will reward you financially.
