I’ve written often about the need to excommunicate all Toxic Individuals from your inner circle. Toxic people interfere with your ability to move forward in life. They interfere with the accomplishment of your dreams and goals. Toxic people intentionally or unintentionally disrupt your life, cause stress, distract you and often force you to solve problems you did not create.

So, Toxic people, like weeds, need to be removed from your relationship garden.

But there is another group of individuals who also need to be weeded out of your relationship garden and pushed way outside of your inner circle – Non-Functional Players (NFPs).

NFPs are individuals who have zero interest in helping you realize your dreams and achieve your goals. Rather, like NFPs in a video game, they are pre-programed, and that pre-programming is Me-Centric.

What best defines a NFP is someone who will almost certainly reach out to you for help but never reciprocate when you reach out to them for help. It’s a one-sided relationship. NFPs are time bandits on a me-centric mission.

As a result, Non-Functional types will add zero value to your life and will consume your time.

And that’s fine, for those who are not busy pursuing dreams and goals.

For those who are pursuing dreams and goals, NFPs will waste your time, distract you and disrupt your focus. While not necessarily toxic, NFPs do interfere with your ability to realize your dreams and accomplish your goals.

When you realize all of your dreams and goals, having NFPs in your inner circle is fine.

Until then, weed them from your garden.
