Laughter is the best medicine. According to many studies, laughter has the following health benefits:
- Reduces blood pressure.
- Strengthens your immune system.
- Improves your breathing.
- Increases your energy.
When life is not cooperating and your day is not going well, find something that will make you laugh. It will act like a salve, reversing the damage to your health, bad stress days can cause to your body.
Clarity of thought is critical to problem solving. Stress and negative events act like brakes on your ability to solve problems. They shut down your prefrontal cortex (executive decision-making part of the brain) and the primitive parts of your brain take over.
Laughter is an emotional re-set button. It immediately clears away the stress and negativity brought on by those bad days, awakening the executive decision-making part of your brain and enabling you to think with a clearer mind.
Thanks for the reminder! I’m guilty of taking things so serious sometimes and so I appreciated your article. Here’s a random joke for your readers. What did the psychiatrist tell the jar of jam? “If you’d open up I’m sure people would think you were just great!”.
Thank you Tom for all your great healthy wholesome and uplifting articles.
I agree Laughter does all that you shared but also lightens and give reliefs to all burdensome chores and hard work.
Just sharing an incident that happened two days ago. . Our two and half year old grandson when asked casually if he likes me? He replied, “Yes I like you. then I asked him again as my wife, his Grandma was next to me, how about Por Por? (Grandma?) . Isaiah replied: ‘I love Por Por’ All three adults including Isaiah’s Mum were present when this fun time happened. I could see the radiance and relieve of my wife’s face when she burst out with great laughter and joy! It definitely lightens and make my wife’s hectic and busy day!.
