In my upcoming book, Rich Habits, Expanded 2nd Edition, I run through thirty Poor Habits that are keeping you from living a successful, happy, wealthy life. Below is an overview of one of the Poor Habits that are holding you back:

Lack of Self-Awareness

In order to transform your life, you must first become self-aware of the habits, thinking, decisions and actions that are negatively impacting your life. Self-Awareness is the first Rich Habit because it is the most important Rich Habit. Without self-awareness you cannot self-assess and without self-assessment you will struggle to improve and grow into the person you need to be in order for success to visit you.

One of the tools you can use to become Self-Aware of your Poor Habits is the Habit Inversion Tracker.

How does it work?

There are three steps.

Step One – Carry a small notebook with you for three days. During those three days, write down every activity for each day. After three days, look for the activities that repeatedly show up each day. These are Habits.

Step Two -Mark these Habits with a Plus Sign (+) or a Negative Sign (-). Habits with a Negative Sign are the Poor Habits that are holding you back.

Step Three – Invert each Poor Habit into a Rich Habit.

Example:

Poor Habit – I watch TV for three hours a day.

New Rich Habit – I watched no more than one hour of TV Today and used the two additional hours productively.

One after one, invert your Poor Habits. These Inverted Poor Habits become you new Rich Habits. The goal is to devote three months to following your new Rich Habits. After three months, the Rich Habits will become daily habits and when they do, you will no longer need to track these habits as you will engage in them automatically.
