According to UBS Global Wealth Report figures only about 2–3% of adults in America were millionaires, if you excluded the equity in their homes.

What did they do to accumulate their non-home equity wealth?

The 4 Paths to Wealth of Self-Made Millionaires:

Path    %    Years It Took  Average net worth
Dreamer-Entrepreneur        51% 12 $7.45 million
Saver-Investor 49% 32 $3.26 million
Big-Company Climber 18% 20 $3.375 million
Virtuoso 7% 21 $3.98 million

The percentages don’t add up to 100% because their was crossover. For example, many of the Big-Company Climbers, Dreamer-Entrepreneurs and Virtuosos were or became Saver-Investors.

More specifically, here is what these self-made millionaires did for a living that enabled them to build their wealth:

  • Small-business owner – 61%.
  • Professional (CPA, attorney, doctor, advisor, teachers and other professions) – 27%.
  • CEO or senior executive – 23%.
  • Salesperson – 22%. Sales was a big part of the job or business for 73% of the self-made.
  • Construction: about 5–7%.

Again, there was some crossover. For example, some of the small-business owners were also professionals.

If you know any self-made millionaires, take notice. You’ll notice, almost immediately, that they always seem to be in perpetual motion, coming and going from somewhere: seminars, speaking engagements, client/customer meetings, training, networking events, charity events, etc.

One other thing you’ll notice is that they’re usually not alone. They seem to always have people orbiting around them: members of their team, business associates, partners, advisors, fellow non-profit board members, etc.

Their motion is intentional. These self-made millionaires are perpetually in motion because they are pursuing some dream and the numerous goals around that dream. The pursuit of their dream & the goals behind their dream become their life plan.

One of the trademarks of those who seem to be stuck in poverty or the middle-class is that they have no life plan or direction in life. When you lack direction, when you don’t have a plan, you become stuck in life – your default plan becomes inactivity.

Self-made millionaire said their life plan was built around the dream they were pursuing:

  • 92% of the 177 self-made millionaires who were part of my five-year Rich Habits Study said they were pursuing some dream.
  • 82% said they were pursing annual goals, in pursuit of their dream.
  • 80% said they were pursuing monthly goals around their dream.
  • 71% said they had spent one year or more in pursuit of just one major goal behind their dream.
  • 83% said their goals were in writing.
  • 82% said goals require immediate action.
  • 82% said they were single-mindedly obsessed with the goals behind their dream.
  • 79% said they focused on the goals behind their dream, on a daily basis.

Find some time today to script out your ideal future life; a vision for your ideal, perfect life. Then, bullet point each one of the dreams that are embedded within your script. When you are done, sleep on it. Your subconscious brain will start to go to work, while you sleep, trying to figure out a way to help you realize those dreams. The voice in your head will start telling you which goals you need to pursue in order to realize your dream.

Keep tweaking and reading your script every night, right before you go to sleep.

The more you focus on your ideal future life, the more ideas, solutions and opportunities you’ll be fed by your subconscious. These ideas and solutions will motivate you to take action.

Script your ideal future life today. Your subconscious will go to work, behind the scenes, to bring clarity to the action (goals) you must take in order to realize each one of your dreams.

There is something magical and miraculous that happens in your brain when you pursue a dream.
