People like Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Tony Robbins, Og Mandino, Elon Musk and Steve Jobs were like gods to me. I deified them.

Their greatness, success, and wealth were, in my mind, the byproduct of extraordinary intellect, superior work ethic and immense God-given talent. In other words, I ascribed their enormous success to supernatural abilities, not possessed by neither myself nor most other ordinary individuals.

They were successful and rich because they were just the fortunate ones, blessed with extraordinary talents and abilities.

Then, I spent five years studying 233 wealthy individuals and 128 poor individuals and what I learned from my Rich Habits Study completely overhauled my world view of those who are immensely successful.

The immensely successful weren’t touched by the hand of God. Rather, they became obsessed with the pursuit of some dream and that dream infused them with a passion that enabled them to work incredibly long hours, consume prodigious amounts of content and seek knowledge from whatever source, that they believed they needed in order to help them make their dream a reality.

In 2008 I decided to pursue a dream of writing a book about my Rich Habits research.

The very moment I made that decision was the very moment I began a decades-long journey that would transform my life for the better. The 2008 Tom Corley would cease to exist and a new and improved Tom Corley would emerge as my dream expanded from writing a book to becoming one of the top personal development authors around the world.

I’m still not quite there, but I’m getting close.

When I look back on this very long author journey, I hardly recognize the 2008 Tom Corley. That 2008 Tom Corley was a completely different person than today’s Tom Corley.

The pursuit of a dream transforms you from an ugly caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly.

We were given the ability to dream for a reason. And that reason is to help us grow and evolve into the best versions of ourselves.

Follow your dreams.

Tom Corley is an accountant, financial planner and author of “Rich Kids: How to Raise Our Children to Be Happy and Successful in Life”, “Effort-Less Wealth”, “Change Your Habits Change Your Life”, “Rich Habits Poor Habits” and “Rich Habits: The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals.”
